Know that even in the midst of your worst circumstances,
you can be still, calm and at peace because God’s got you.
“If you’ve grown up in Christianity, you’ve probably heard the story of creation so often you can recite it in your sleep…how God spake all things into existence before He finally molded man out of the dust of the earth and formed him in His own image. Bla-bla-bla, right? It’s probably even lost its amazing-ness. But here’s the thing though…it hasn’t! Here are a few lessons from that wonderful story that have changed my life and made me look at the whole thing with new eyes.
1. Genesis 1:2
“Now the earth was formless and empty,
darkness was over the surface of the deep,
and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
How encouraging is it to know that God does not only exist where there is progress or action or beauty or life…when my life is formless, empty and dark, His Spirit is still hovering over me. And my belief is that God does not only see me as I am…He sees me as I could be! He hovers over me, waiting for the perfect moment when He can begin His creation, speak life into me, turn me into something beautiful. He is not intimidated or discouraged by my “nothingness”…dare I say, He is excited by it? Doesn’t an artist love a blank canvas? I look at the dead and dormant layers of who I am and I finally see that the Spirit of God is hovering over me and when His creation in me begins, I can also one day say of myself: “God saw that it was good.”
2. Now after reading the entire first chapter of Genesis, notice the sequence of events here. God did not create the creatures of the sea until He had made the sea. He did not create birds until He had made the sky. He did not create man or animals that roam the earth until he had made dry land for them to walk on and vegetation for them to feed on. Everything God does is carefully calculated. Does that not say to you that whatever situation you are in, God saw it before He allowed you to be in it? Not only did He see it, but He also created an environment for you to survive…not only survive, but to thrive! I don’t care if it’s finances, school, marital issues. Not once in the entire story of creation does God say, “Ooops!” Not once!!! Your situation did not take God by surprise! He saw it coming a mile away. One preacher I love says,
“Your problems have to push past solutions in order to get to you!!!
Your questions have to push past answers before you’ve even spoken them!”
I’m so excited to know that by the time I tell God what’s going on, He’s had a plan in place forever!!! What a GOD!!!
Two beautiful lessons in one cliché old “boring” chapter of the Bible;
- God’s Spirit has attached Himself to me, even in my darkest, emptiest state. I AM LOVED.
- And God has put me in an environment where every problem already has a solution and every need has been fulfilled. GOD’S GOT THIS.”
