Yesterday I wrote a post about “When God says wait” based on the story of Joseph. You can read it HERE. Your life may not turn out or unfold as Joseph’s life did but you can learn 5 lessons that l hope will help you as you wait upon God.
Waiting upon God is never a waste of time.
Isaiah 40:31 tells us that “those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and no be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.” While you are waiting, God is working.
God will never ever forget you.
Isaiah 49:15 tells us that “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, l will not forget you.” God also promised Joshua and Moses, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” The promise is for us too.
Trust God’s Character.
We all believe in the all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving and totally faithful God. Trust His character. Whatever lies ahead, trust him. When God is telling you, “my child, wait here, trust him. Joseph knew the truth that Jeremiah centuries later would express when he said in Lamentations 3:21-26, “This l recall to my mind, therefore l have hope. Through the Lord’s mercies, we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, therefore l have hope in Him. The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks Him.” Trust God’s never-changing hand in your life. God is faithful. Even when we are faithless, He remains faithful still.
Trust God’s purposes for your life.
There is a verse that l am always sharing on the Women Set Apart Facebook Page, It’s in Psalms 31:14-15 it says, “But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, “You are my God!” My future is in your hands.” Trust that when God puts your life on hold, He is working. There is a purpose to your waiting, What is going on or perhaps not going on in your life is just not a series of random unrelated events. God is at work in your life, to fulfil his purposes. Trust him. Wait upon Him. God will never let you down.
Trust God’s Timing
If Joseph had gotten out of prison when the butler told Pharaoh about him do you think Joseph would have been prime minister? Well, l don’t know but l would like to think that things would not have worked out the way they did when Joseph worked on God’s perfect timing. Joseph had to wait for God’s perfect timing. You may be waiting for a breakthrough right now, you may be waiting to have a child, to get married, to get that job. You may be waiting for the pain in your back to finally heal. Maybe you are being forced to wait for an answer to your prayer. It’s been a week, a month, a few years and you re still waiting. Waiting is a vital part of God’s programme.
Do not give up.
Do not lose hope.
Even when your life doesn’t make sense remember whose you are. Remember that the God you serve is alive, He is in control and He has not changed.
He is with you.
He is for you.
He will keep you.
He has a plan for your life. Whatever you are going through entrust it to God.
God’s Got This.
I don’t promise you that you won’t face any trials. You will. But one thing l know is that God will see you through it all. In the words of Max Lucado:
It won’t be painless.
It won’t be quick
But God will use the mess you are in for your good.
My challenge for you today is that if you find yourself in God’s waiting room. Whatever it is you are waiting for, remember the story of Joseph. Remember the 5 points l listed above. God has not forgotten about you, He will never forget you.
“Trust Him at all times you people,
pour out your heart to Him. God is a refuge for us.” Psalms 62:8
