I was reading the story of David and Goliath from 1 Samuel 17 when l realised that this story actually relates to our lives in so many ways. We all have a goliath of some sort that we are facing, every single one of us. Maybe your goliath is a giant of fornication, adultery, depression, marriage troubles, pornography, infertility, financial debt, unemployment, a sick parent or child and so on. Unlike Goliath your giant can be found in your home, at work, at university, in your bedroom, in your fridge and maybe even on your computer. Constantly your giant mocks and laughs in your face. Repeatedly your giant reminds you of your past and your failures and works hard at spoiling your joy.
As l read the story of David, I was really encouraged by the following verses:
1 Samuel 17:37 – Moreover David said,”The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this philistine.”
1 Samuel 17:45 – Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
1 Samuel 17:47 – Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.
David was CONFIDENT in the God that he served. He knew that God would show up for Him like He had always done in the past. The question is; when you encounter a goliath in your life who do you have confidence in? The God you serve or the giant? Do you look up in fear to this giant standing in your way or do you look up in faith and tell your giant about the God that you have confidence in? If you read the story you will notice that when David showed up that day, he spoke about nothing else but GOD.
David was God-Focused.
David knew that the battle was the Lord’s.
The story tells us that David RAN towards goliath and hesitated not. When was the last time you ran towards your goliath and stood and faced your giant in confidence that God will fight your battle for you? Or do you find it easier to run and hide away from your giant and remain defeated?
Today, I challenge you to face up to your goliath with the confidence that God will fight your battle.
Tell your giant of fornication, debt, rejection, adultery, depression, unemployment and so on that you have confidence in God and it shall fall. Truth is:
Focus on giants – you stumble.
Focus on God – your giants stumble.
