“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
Imagine running at the airport with 2 large suitcases, a handbag and a smaller bag too. Trying to hold your luggage together because you can’t leave it with anyone to watch it for you. You are late and don’t want to miss your plane and in such a hurry you’ve missed the fact that there are trolleys where you can put all these bags and make things lighter and easier for you. You’re frustrated because the smaller bag keeps falling and you have to stop and pick it up. In the end your plane leaves you because of your luggage.
That’s exactly what we do. We move around with our problems, carry them wherever we are such that we are stressed all the time and unhappy. We are always worried about one thing or another. Today it’s the bills, tomorrow it’s because I’m single and so forth. Jesus is so good to us because He’s telling us to give it all to Him. He didn’t say there won’t be problems, He promised to carry them for us and we shall find rest for our souls.
If you know what a yoke is you know for it to balance there has to be at least 2 animals or objects in this case that’s Jesus and you. Taking Jesus yoke means He’s going to carry the heavy side and you’ll carry the light side. These are your problems not His and Jesus is still making it easier for us. What a good God we serve.
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15 KJV
Jesus knows exactly what we are going through for He has gone through the same. What are you worried about? Have you taken it to Jesus? Run and leave it all in His hands.
We have trust issues, this is why we would rather carry our own burdens. We have been disappointed so much, most if not all the people we know have let us down in one way or another. So now it’s difficult to leave everything in Jesus’ hands and trust Him. Instead of going to cry to the Lord we call our friends and sit and complain for hours on end. Nothing comes out of it. We neglect the One who promised to be there for us. Personally, I choose to Trust God. Even though I may not fully understand what it entails but my hope is in Jesus and nothing else.
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7 NIV. The only way to know and trust God is to stay in His word and talk to Him on a daily basis. We speak to our friends daily but have no time for our Savior daily. Set aside time everyday, quiet time to sing praises and worship your creator, pray and study His word. This is the only way to build your trust in God. When we trust God, it’s easy to leave our baggage with Him because we know only He can take care of it.
Hard to Give Up Own Will and Way—If you are willing to learn meekness and lowliness of heart in Christ’s school, He will surely give you rest and peace. It is a terribly hard struggle to give up your own will and your own way. But this lesson learned, you will find rest and peace. Pride, selfishness, and ambition must be overcome; your will must be swallowed up in the will of Christ. The whole life may become one constant love sacrifice, every action a manifestation, and every word an utterance of love. As the life of the vine circulates through stem and cluster, descends into the lower fibers, and reaches to the topmost leaf, so will the grace and love of Christ burn and abound in the soul, sending its virtues to every part of the being, and pervading every exercise of body and mind (Letter 14, 1887). – {5BC 1091.4}( E.G.White S.D.A bible commentary vol 5)
